Geography of Bozcaada
Except for a few small hills towards the centre, Bozcaada is made up of vast empty plains. Its highest peak Göztepe is 192 meters. The fascinating view from this hill brings the whole island to one’s feet.
There is no river on the island except for a few streams that run during the winter.
The natural vegetation of the island is scrubs and shrubs. A thirds of the whole area is covered with vineyards.
The wind is largely responsible for the formation of the vegetation. The reason why the island appears earth-brown is because trees cannot grow on the windward parts. But it is possible to come across pine groves in secluded parts.
The dunes situated at the west end of the island are important for they are the habitat of various types of dune plants.
On the island there are 12 bays and capes. Moreover, there are ten islets of various sizes around the island.
