Corvus is one of the rings recently added to the vineyard tradition of Bozcaada, dating back to hundreds of years. It means "crow" in Latin. With the inspiration of crows in the island have they chosen this name for themselves. Its founder, architecture Mr. Reşit Soley has had connections to the island for many years. He decided to settle down with this job thinking that Bozcaada was losing its vineyard culture based on the history of the island day by day. With his 25 years of professional experience as a designer, using tradition and technology together has brought a new dimension to the viniculture of the island.
Corvus knows that what leads to good wine is a good vineyard. For the vineyard that started to be established in 2002, detailed soil analyses were performed in advance and meteorological breakdowns of the last 20 years were investigated. They worked with French and Italian experts when choosing the seeds, and with Israeli experts when establishing the irrigation system. They took over Bozcaada Tekel Wine Factory through privatization and turned it into a modern plant equipped with latest technologies in a period as short as 4 months. On August, 2004, the first harvest was done and the wine that was awaited in oak barrels was presented to market in 2005.
Corvus vineyards have 250 acres of area in total, a great part of which is located in southern hillside of the island (in Yerebakan area). Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Çavuş and Vasilaki of the local grapes are the types of grapes cultivated in their own vineyards. In addition, Öküzgüzü and Boğazkere grapes that were collected from Elazığ and Diyarbakır’s traditional vineyards that do not require irrigation are used from outside of the island.
What Corvus has aimed for itself is to preserve local grapes of the island; making wines from them that are quality enough to represent the island in world markets. Therefore, they produced their very first wines 100 % from Bozcaada grapes (Çavuş, Vasilaki, Kuntra and Karalahna). Especially the wine they produced from table grape Çavuş, the name of which was formerly mentioned along with Bozcaada, is the first and sold out in a short time.
Apart from the Center, in Corvus factory in Tuzburnu area, technical tours are held in summer season in certain hours of the day. There is a sales store next to the factory, and in the island center, there is “Corvus Wine Bar” where you can both taste and purchase wines. Along with the two stores they opened in Istanbul, they have a wide distribution chain ranging from distinguished restaurants to hotels.
